If you’ve started searching for private event venues in Dahlonega, you’ve probably noticed how many options there are, banquet halls, lodges, downtown ballrooms, mountain inns, and a long list of vineyards. The vineyard category is the one that’s grown the fastest, and it’s grown for a reason.

A vineyard does something the other venue types can’t: it does half the work for you. The rolling rows of vines, the Blue Ridge views, the seasonal color of the land, all of it becomes your décor. You spend less on flowers, draping, and lighting because the setting is already beautiful. Your photos turn out incredible without much effort. And your guests walk away with an experience, not just a party.

A vineyard setting also tends to slow people down in the best way. Conversations stretch longer. Phones come out less. Wine country invites the kind of celebration where guests actually remember the day, not just the highlight reel.

Dahlonega is one of the strongest places in the Southeast to do this. The town sits in the Dahlonega Plateau AVA, Georgia’s federally recognized American Viticultural Area,  which is home to the highest concentration of wineries in the state. You’re about 90 minutes north of Atlanta, 10 minutes from a historic downtown square, and surrounded by working farms with serious wine programs and increasingly sophisticated event spaces.

This guide walks through what to look for, what to expect, and how to plan a private event at a Dahlonega vineyard,  written from inside one.

Why Doghobble Wine Farm

We’re Doghobble Wine Farm, one of the working vineyards on the Dahlonega Plateau, and we host private events here regularly. That’s the lens we’re writing from. It’s not a conflict of interest, it’s a qualification.

Here’s what sets Doghobble apart as a private event venue:

A real working farm, not a venue with grapes for decoration. Doghobble sits on 80 acres atop the Dahlonega Plateau. The wine is grown on the property. The food program, led by Chef Becca’s seasonal kitchen, an Embers wood-fired pizza truck, and Belén de la Cruz handmade empanadas, is built around what the farm produces. Alpacas, goats, sheep, donkeys, and chickens roam the pastures, and they’re part of the experience.

Two distinct private event spaces. Most Dahlonega vineyards offer one space. We have two, the Trellis (indoor, restored farmhouse, adults-only, built for intimate gatherings) and the Pavilion on the Plateau (outdoor, family-friendly, built for larger or more casual events). That gives you flexibility to match the venue to your event instead of the other way around.

Indigenous wines you can’t get anywhere else. Doghobble specializes in indigenous and hybrid grape varieties,  Norton, Carlos Muscadine, Lenoir, Traminette, Chambourcin, alongside familiar varietals like Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Rosé. Your guests will taste wines they genuinely cannot find in California, Napa, or anywhere else.

Close enough to be easy. Far enough to feel like a getaway. 90 minutes from Atlanta, 10 minutes from downtown Dahlonega.

Our Two Private Event Venues

Doghobble offers two distinct bookable spaces. The right one for your event depends on your group size, your guest mix, and the vibe you’re after.

The Trellis (Indoor)

The Trellis is the original family farmhouse on the property, restored and reimagined as a sophisticated indoor tasting room. It blends the warmth of tradition with the polish of contemporary design, fireplaces, cozy lounge seating, covered porches overlooking the vineyard, a catering kitchen, a wine bar, and on-site bathrooms.

The Trellis is adults-only (21+) and ideal for intimate gatherings up to around 40 guests. Think dinner parties, bridal showers, executive retreats, milestone birthdays, and rehearsal dinners.

The Pavilion on the Plateau (Outdoor)

The Pavilion is our open-air tasting room on a breathtaking plateau overlook. The space is meticulously designed, a covered structure surrounded by lawn seating, with panoramic views of the vineyard, pastures, forest, and the surrounding Blue Ridge foothills. You’ll likely catch sight of the alpacas or sheep wandering nearby.

The Pavilion welcomes all ages and is built for larger or more casual events. Wedding welcome parties, graduation parties, family-friendly birthdays, corporate cookouts, and outdoor receptions all fit here naturally.

For some events, hosting across both spaces makes the most sense,  cocktail hour at the Trellis, then dinner and dancing at the Pavilion, for example. We can walk you through that during your inquiry.

Private Events We Host

Below are the celebrations we host most often, with notes on what tends to work well at Doghobble for each. Several of these have their own dedicated guides, those are linked where applicable so you can dig deeper into the details that matter for your specific event.

Corporate Events & Retreats

Corporate events at Doghobble work because they don’t feel like corporate events. A vineyard in the mountains changes the energy of any gathering,  conversations happen differently when people are relaxed, and ideas flow more freely when nobody is staring at fluorescent lights.

We host team building outings, client appreciation events, executive retreats, sales kickoffs, board meetings, leadership offsites, and holiday parties. The Trellis suits focused leadership sessions and intimate client dinners. The Pavilion handles larger team events, product launches, and more casual gatherings. Both spaces include catering, wine, and the option to add a guided tasting led by our team.

Atlanta-based companies use Doghobble as their go-to escape from the standard hotel-ballroom routine. We’re close enough for a half-day offsite, far enough to feel like a real change of scenery.

Bridal Showers

Bridal showers are one of our favorite events to host. The Trellis is purpose-built for them, fireplaces, lounge seating, vineyard-view porches, and the kind of soft, natural light that makes every photo look like it belongs in a magazine. We can set up grazing boards, host a guided tasting, and pair everything with the bride’s favorite Doghobble pours.

For larger or warm-weather showers, the Pavilion offers an open-air alternative with sweeping views and easy room for gift tables, dessert displays, and a casual flow.

Rehearsal Dinners

Rehearsal dinners are the moment your wedding weekend actually starts to feel real. You’ve got both families together, often for the first time, and the goal is for everyone to relax into the celebration ahead.

Both of our spaces work for rehearsal dinners, the Trellis for intimate, seated dinners up to about 40 guests, the Pavilion for larger gatherings or groups who want the outdoor mountain backdrop. Chef Becca’s seasonal menu can be customized to fit your style, and Doghobble wines flow throughout.

Wedding Welcome Parties

Wedding welcome parties have quickly become one of the most-requested events on our calendar, and for good reason. Out-of-town guests have traveled to be there, and a relaxed Friday-night gathering at a vineyard is a beautiful way to thank them and set the tone for the weekend.

The Pavilion shines for welcome parties. It’s open-air, casual, and can comfortably handle a wide guest count. We can arrange wood-fired pizza from Embers, empanadas, charcuterie boards, and a self-pour wine setup so guests can wander and mingle. Live music adds to the atmosphere, and the sunset views over the plateau usually do most of the heavy lifting.

For couples planning a wedding weekend in North Georgia, we love being part of the broader story, the welcome party at Doghobble, then onto your ceremony venue the next day.

Birthday Parties

We host birthdays of all kinds, milestone celebrations, surprise parties, decade markers, and everything in between. The Trellis is perfect for adult birthdays where the focus is on great wine, great food, and great company in a more intimate setting. The Pavilion works beautifully for larger or family-style birthday gatherings, including those with kids in the mix.

Past birthday events at Doghobble have featured guided tastings, custom grazing boards, themed dinner experiences with our executive chef, live music, and even alpaca meet-and-greets that the guest of honor will not stop talking about.

Graduation Parties

Graduation parties at a vineyard are an underrated move. Whether you’re celebrating a college graduation, a high school senior, a graduate degree, or a professional milestone, Doghobble offers a setting that feels grown-up, celebratory, and genuinely memorable, without the standard backyard-party fatigue.

The Pavilion is our most popular choice for graduation parties because it accommodates a wider age range, has space for family-style dining, and gives kids (or younger siblings) room to roam while the adults enjoy a glass of wine and the view. We can pair the celebration with pizza from Embers, a custom dessert spread, and a curated wine flight for the toast.

Food, Wine & What’s Included

When you host a private event at Doghobble, your inquiry includes a conversation about exactly what you need. Every event is customized, so we’ll walk you through the specifics during your planning call. Here’s a high level of what’s available.

Food. Chef Becca leads our seasonal kitchen at the Trellis with shareable plates, charcuterie, and locally sourced dishes. Our Embers wood-fired pizza truck handles casual events and add-ons. We’re also the exclusive North Georgia vendor for Belén de la Cruz handmade empanadas. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options are available across the menu. For elevated multi-course experiences, our executive chef has created dinner events featuring everything from paella to bison to seasonal grazing boards.

Wine. Doghobble produces wines that reflect this specific terroir, indigenous and hybrid varieties like Norton, Carlos Muscadine, Lenoir, Traminette, and Chambourcin, alongside more familiar varietals like Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Rosé. Private events can include guided tastings, custom flights, by-the-glass service, or full bottle service depending on your preference. Our Sparkling Chardonnay is a popular toast for special occasions.

Setup & venue. Tables, seating, fireplaces, the catering kitchen at the Trellis, the wine bar, on-site bathrooms, and the use of the venue space itself. We coordinate setup and breakdown so you can focus on your guests.

Add-ons. Guided wine tastings, winemaker meet-and-greets, vineyard tours, live music, custom signage, and themed menus can all be added. We’re happy to talk through ideas during your inquiry.

A note on Georgia law. No outside food or alcohol is permitted on the property , that’s a state requirement, not a Doghobble preference. Everything you serve will come from our kitchen and our wine program.

Best Times of Year to Host

Doghobble is open year-round (we close only for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day), and each season brings something different.

Spring (March–May). Peak wildflowers, baby animals on the farm, mild weather, and lighter weekend traffic. Spring is wonderful for bridal showers, graduation parties, and outdoor welcome parties.

Summer (June–August). Long evenings, lush vineyard color, and prime weather for the Pavilion. Summer weekends fill up fastest, so book early,  especially around the Dahlonega Wine Trail Weekend in August.

Fall (September–November). The most atmospheric season at the farm. Harvest is happening across the Plateau, the Blue Ridge foliage peaks, and the entire region takes on the kind of color that does most of the work for your photos. Fall is our most-requested season for rehearsal dinners and welcome parties.

Winter (December–February). Quieter, cozier, and surprisingly magical. The Trellis with a fire going on a cold afternoon is one of the best-kept secrets in North Georgia. Winter is ideal for intimate corporate retreats, milestone birthdays, and small bridal showers.

Planning Timeline: What to Expect

Here’s roughly how the planning process unfolds once you reach out:

Step 1 – Submit your inquiry. Fill out the private event inquiry form on our site. The more detail you can share about your event type, date range, guest count, and vision, the better.

Step 2 – We’ll be in touch. A member of our team will reach out, usually within a few business days, to confirm availability, talk through your vision, and walk you through pricing. Pricing is custom to each event, which is why we don’t publish set rates, your event isn’t off-the-shelf, and neither is the quote.

Step 3 – Site visit. If you’d like to see the property in person before booking (we recommend it), we’ll set up a time for you to tour the Trellis and Pavilion and meet the team.

Step 4 – Confirm your booking. Once you’re ready, we’ll lock in your date with a contract and deposit.

Step 5 – Detail planning. As your event approaches, we’ll work through menu, wine, setup, timeline, and any add-ons together. You can be as hands-on or as hands-off as you’d like.

Step 6 – Event day. You show up. We handle the rest.

Lead time. For peak-season events (especially fall weekends), we recommend booking 6 to 9 months in advance. For shoulder-season and weekday events, 2 to 4 months is usually plenty. If you’re working with a tighter timeline, reach out anyway, we may be able to make it work.

10 Roy Grindle Road, Dahlonega, GA 30533, about 90 minutes north of Atlanta and 10 minutes from historic downtown Dahlonega.

It depends on the event type and which space you book. The Trellis is best for intimate gatherings up to around 40 guests. The Pavilion handles larger groups comfortably. For very large events, we can sometimes coordinate use of both spaces. Share your guest count in your inquiry and we’ll let you know what works.
